34 weeks and another hospital stay!

Back when we found out we were having triplets we set 34 weeks as our goal. 34 weeks also happened to fall on Toms birthday so it was perfect. Towards the middle of the pregnancy that changed and then our goal was just let’s make it one more day. Well, we’ve officially passed the 34 week mark!! 34 weeks, 1 day today!

I had an appointment last Thursday and again all looked great. Babies were monitored and all received 10/10 on their bio physicals. My blood pressure was great, still no swelling anywhere and there were no concerns. I was measured and came in at 53.5 weeks pregnant!! Wahoo! Great for the babies, not so much for my comfort levels ;) Saturday evening, I noticed my feet were swollen. Not going to lie, I was a little excited! I thought maybe this means that something was going to happen?! I ended up calling the Dr just to make sure everything was alright since the swelling was pretty sudden, and they said to just watch it and if it got worse to come in. It didn’t get worse and got better once I put my feet up for a little while. They were still swollen Sunday but not bad at all. Sunday I was able to get a pedicure and lunch with Amanda, it was a fun day!! Then Sunday evening I started to feel a little “off” but didn’t think much of it, plus I had my 34 week appointment Monday.

Sunday evening Tom had to work due to the snow storm, so he was gone all night plowing. Of course, the appointment was at 9:15 am so he came home around 8:00 to pick me up and we headed there. Clearly, he got no sleep Sunday night! I was up till 4:00 am not feeling well as it is just hard to get comfortable these days, so we were both feeling a bit rough going into the appt. We had the ultrasound first and the babies looked great! Then they checked my blood pressure. It had jumped pretty high. I had been having normal to low blood pressure my whole pregnancy and this was a huge jump. They also found a trace of protein in my urine sample which lead them to believe I could have the beginnings of pre-eclampsia. That is not something to mess with, especially with multiples and the only “cure” is delivery. They checked my blood pressure a few more times and got the same result. The Dr, decided I should be admitted for monitoring and said we might be meeting the babies that afternoon! I wasn’t thrilled about the idea of having pre-eclampsia but I was so excited that today could be THE DAY!!! I am so uncomfortable, each day seems to get worse, I am out of breath from simple tasks like walking up stairs and I just feel so exhausted all the time. So the idea of not being pregnant AND finally meeting the babies was very appealing! Plus, making it to 34 weeks is a huge accomplishment.

We were sent to triage first where they would determine if it was in fact pre-eclampsia or just pregnancy hypertension. They drew labs and monitored the babies some more. The labs came back negative, meaning that the blood pressure was not affecting my kidneys or liver, which was great news, but it also meant they had no reason to deliver the babies that day. The problem with the high blood pressure is that it can change very quickly, so they did still want to keep me overnight for observation. Our third hospital stay, hopefully the last before they arrive. We were checked in and both took much needed naps! I was on bed rest again, only up to use the bathroom. My blood
pressure  went down a bit, still considered high but not high enough for them to need to take the babies. This morning after being checked every 4 hours throughout the night, the Dr decided I could go home today, and I will come back to the clinic later this week to have my pressure checked again. Such a quick stay! I am glad the babies are doing so well, but I am so ready for them to be out!

I am home now and watching for signs of high blood pressure, or labor. If I go into labor at this point they won’t do anything to stop it and I would have the babies. The C-section is still scheduled for next week but there’s always the possibility I could either start to develop high blood pressure at home and need to come in or they will find it’s high at the appointment later this week. It’s just a waiting game now!!

Tom got to spend his birthday in the hospital, lucky him ;) we did order pizza and I was able to snag some chocolate pudding from the snack cart and sang to him, ha ha. He was disappointed no babies on his birthday! But now he won’t have to share his special day. Tom really wants me to make it to the C-section, but I am hoping for labor everyday! Either way, next week our babies will be here and we will finally get to meet them!! Seems so surreal, but we can’t wait!

Thanks for reading!! Xoxo
