28 Weeks!
We made it!!!! 28 weeks. This is the day we've been working towards for the past 6 weeks. It feels so surreal, but we are FINALLY here. Now, this is NOT to say we are out of the woods for any complications and it's not all downhill from here, however with triplets (or any pregnancy, really) 28 weeks is a crucial milestone to get to. I am so proud and in awe of my body and what it can do. We know there are a lot of unknowns to come and anything could happen from here on out, but it does feel good to say we are officially in the 3rd trimester, and today we celebrate that!
Last night and this morning were pretty rough- I didn't sleep well (that isn't too uncommon these days) but last night was up most of the night feeling a lot of increased pressure. I kept waking Tom up debating if we should head into the hospital or just wait till my appointment that was scheduled for 9:15 am. I decided I would wait, however around 8:15 the pressure was so bad and I was nearly in tears so I called the clinic asking what to do. They said I should come in for the appointment as scheduled and since it was at the hospital anyways they would be able to quickly admit me if they found anything had changed. I was able to make it to the car and to the appointment. We made sure we had our hospital bags packed and in the car, expecting the unexpected ;-)
First up was the ultrasound, where we quickly found the reason for the increased pressure. I have two little butts pushing up against my cervix, haha!! Baby A and B are both breech, (which is fine because I will be having a C section) but BOTH of their little butts are pushing, and it hurts! Walking today has put me in tears several times already, but I feel alright when I am laying. Sitting is also causing some pressure but it's not as bad as when I am up walking. Anyways, we were relieved to also find out that I am no more dilated than I was last almost two weeks ago. Whew!
The babies are looking excellent!! It was harder to see them since they are really running out of room, so they kind of just looked like different body parts floating around, but it was still fun to see them. We also were very anxious to get their weights and we were hoping they were over 2 lbs now. To our great surprise, they are still measuring BIG. We were warned by several dr's to not be expecting a big gain as triplets tend to slow down between 24-26 weeks, well clearly ours didn't follow that. They are almost 3 lbs each!!! Baby boys A and B are 2 lbs 15 oz and Baby girl C is 2 lbs 12 oz. Our dr came in and congratulated us on our "over achievers." That was the best news we could have gotten, since they are coming any day now (or not?!) The fact they are bigger than average is amazing. For me, however that means I am carrying almost 9 lbs of babies, PLUS 3 placentas and fluids. Yikes!! They told me all my complaints are completely justified, which Tom rolled his eyes at ;) My belly is measuring 38 weeks along! Eeek.
I am so uncomfortable, everything hurts more than I expected, but it is so worth after having appoinment like this mornings. I am doing all I can to keep these babies safe inside. I love them so much already!! I cant wait for the moment we get to finally meet them and when they are older tell them their story and how long we waited for them. There have been SO many ups and downs on this journey, its been over three years in the making - losses that we will never forget, more blood work and dr's appointments that we could possibly count, and the fact we are so close to meeting them is just incredible. Through this all we have gained so much strength and love, and have seen the best in people, we are so grateful for our support system. And I just have to shout out to Tom- he has been there with me from day one with all of this and has been my rock. It hasn't been easy for him, either but he has always been strong for me and kept me going. Between working 40+ hours a week, finishing the basement and taking care of me at times, he has really shown how willing he is to do whatever it takes for our family and I am so glad he's my partner! Our families and friends have also really stepped up and helped out with cleaning, laundry, meals, diapers, etc. My parents have helped alot with the nursery and little errands we may need.Tom's parents have brought food and groceries over and helped with basement work. We appreciate each and every one of you!
I have gotten so many messages, texts, phone calls and they are all so appreciated. Know that if I don't respond or give much detail I am still thankful for you, it is just easier at this point to update everyone at once via the blog so if you are wondering, check back here. I am trying to update once a week and will continue to update (maybe not as frequently ;)) once the babies are here! Right now, the plan is just to see how far I will go. We are on standby, as the babies could come today, tomorrow, or in 4 weeks, there is just no way of knowing right now. The tentative plan is to attend Christmas Eve and Christmas day with our families next week but we have nothing else planned, and will continue to lay low this week/weekend as I am still on modified bed rest. I have weekly appointments and am just taking each day as it comes. Thanks for reading!
