Day in the life 2.1.2023

These are always so fun to read from others and I am so curious what a typical day looks like for people. Obviously everyone’s day to day is completely different, but this was ours on this day!

- Wednesday, February 1st 2023 -

School today for the kids so my alarm goes off a little before 7. Typically Sam is up between 6-6:30 but today he slept in! Molly was the first one up which NEVER happens. Anyways, we all got up, Tom was home still so we tag teamed the breakfast/clothes morning routine. Molly is the hardest in the morning, she is always the last to be ready and is such a slow eater! But, everyone was ready when the bus came at 7:46. Elliott still likes one of us to walk him out, and it was negative something outside so Tom threw on his shoes and walked him out. Once they left, Tom started working on the van. Our heat wasn’t working… brrr. So thankful he was able to fix it by replacing the thermostat!

While he did that I cleaned up the kitchen and then started on Mollys room. we did play-doh yesterday and I didn’t notice she grabbed some kinetic sand and brought it into her bedroom… ugh. Cleaned out and vacuumed her room and then finished up our taxes. Thank you, turbo tax for making that relatively easy for me! I also booked our rental car for San Diego in a few weeks and paid some bills. Tom finished the van and then left to go drop some stuff off at work and then to start his project.. bathroom remodel at my parents. I can’t wait to see it when it’s done!

10:30 came too quickly as it always does ;) and the kids bus was pulling up. Their bus driver and aid are amazing so I spent a minute chatting with them while the kids got off. The car was already running (with the heat working!) so I shuffled them into the car so we could go to the gym. Elliott did not want to go but I had snacks for everyone so that helped, ha! I ran almost 2 miles and did an a workout while the kids played in the childcare. Since we had covid I’ve barely ran and woof I felt this one. Picked up the kids around noon and we were off to the bank. By this time it was like 12:30 so I caved and we got chic-fil-a for lunch. Kids were “STARVING” so they ate in the car. I cannot listen to whining when I drive so all rules go out the window quickly… I am not a perfect parent ;)

Sam fell asleep in the car and was super crabby when I woke him up. I changed his pants (he had a little accident when using the bathroom at the gym) and he laid back down. Score! Naps are not super common so I’ll take them whenever I can get them these days. Elliott and Molly had some iPad time and I ate my lunch and took a shower. Sam was up on his iPad by the time I got out of the shower so I guess the nap didn’t last. Booo. I watched an episode of Greys and let my hair air dry a bit, did some more laundry and then around 2:30 Tom came home. I LOVE winter solely for his schedule and flexibility. It is so nice that I can for the most part plan for him to be home for dinner and the morning routine. Once spring/summer comes it’s basically me myself and I from sun up to sun down. Of course, my parents, aunts, friends, in-laws all pitch in and are so helpful if I ever am in a bind but I can pretty much just assume Tom isn’t going to be able to move his schedule around. It is what it is - he makes our life possible and as annoying as it can be, I am so thankful for his job and the money he makes! Ok, moving on…

Elliott and I got ready and left at 3:15 for his weekly speech/OT sessions. He is there from 345-515. I will sometimes go back with him and observe, other times will just drop him off and either wait in the car or run errands. I had a few places to go today so I ran to Trader Joe’s, UPS store to drop off amazon returns, the dollar store and target. I am currently in the parking lot waiting for him to be done. I usually chat with his OT after for a few minutes.

Elliott and I then ran to Sam’s club to order their birthday cake and grab a few things. Then We waited in line forever to get gas… it’s always so much cheaper st Sam’s. I wish the one closer to us had a gas station. It was here that Elliott decided he was done. I hurried home as fast as I could and got home around 7.

Came home and Tom had fed Sam and Molly dinner. Made Elliott some leftover pizza and I had a protein shake. I wasn’t super hungry, but wanted something. By the time we had unloaded all the groceries and gotten settled it was 7:15. Wooof. Did the nighttime routine and all kids were in bed by 8. Goodnight!

There it is! A normal Wednesday for us in the winter. Stay at home mom life is busy in such a different way. I’m so glad I have this documented it will be fun to go back and remember what a typical day really was like for us! I am gonna try to do one every few months and I know our routine has changed quite a bit and will continue to!
