6 months

SIX. Months.

How is this even possible?! I think about how drastically our lives have changed in the past 6 months and wow! This is even better than I ever could have dreamed it would be. Lots of updates to share this month!

Elliott- he is 14.5 lbs! He is almost exactly in the middle weight wise between his brother and sister. He has really started to chat this month, he makes a squeal that sounds like a bird! Ha. He is still a huge mamas boy and loves to snuggle with me! He is obsessed with his pacifier and has one clipped to him constantly. He know what he wants and boy, does he let us know when he isn’t happy! I think of the three, he is going to be the one who needs the most consistency. He is like clockwork with his naps and bedtime, I can tell what time it is just by the way he starts to fuss. I managed to get the babies on a daytime schedule this week (HUGE win for mama, I am very proud of myself!!). I based the schedule off his cues since he is the most dramatic and needy, and the other two babies followed along!  We are starting to see their personalities more and more and it is so much fun!! Elliott has had some more stomach issues this month, he definitely has the most sensitive tummy. He is constipated frequently but we are trying to work through his tummy issues with prune juice and some suppositories... good times! Never would have thought Tom and I would be up at 4 AM trying to get poop out of our child’s butt... but I guess this is parenthood ;)

Samuel - he is 15.9 lbs! Chunk a man! He is laughs the most, looooves to kick his feet and be sung to. When he belly laughs, his whole face lights up. I’ve noticed that if he’s really tired he will laugh at everything so sometimes I just say dumb things and he laughs and laughs. It’s adorable. We decided to put him back on the oatmeal mixed in with his formula as he was just really struggling with the thin liquid. So, he’s back to 3 tbs of oatmeal in each bottle and is eating like a champ! He started physical therapy at the beginning of July and he has made a lot of improvement! He began therapy due to his neck being stronger on the right side, so he has an obvious head tilt towards the left. We have some exercises we do a few times a day to stretch and strengthen the muscles. He also seems to be a bit behind developmentally, so we have some other things we are working on. The PT has been pleased each week with his progress! Right now we are working on grabbing his feet and holding toys and bringing them to his mouth. He goes to therapy once a week and it’s been fun having one on one time with my guy! Luckily I’ve been able to have friends come and help out with Elliott and Molly so I can just bring Samuel in. One thing we’ve noticed about Samuel is that he tends to get over stimulated a bit in big groups or when we have a lot going on. He needs time to decompress by himself, or he gets really worked up. I think being passed around to people and too much activity around him is hard for him after a while.

Molly- she is 12.4 lbs and officially out of newborn diapers! Ha. She is still such a little trooper and SO strong. She loves standing and will get fussy sometimes if she’s lying and wants to stand. She locks her knees and will stand for a long time (with help, of course). She is so patient as the boys take up a lot of my time but she has been teething pretty bad so that’s been hard for her! She is very drooly and sometimes will just hold her hands in her mouth and cry. I've been working on giving her more toys to chew on but she just really loves to have her hands in her mouth! She is so content doing whatever we are doing, she rarely fusses or draws attention to herself. She would rather be left alone then be messed with it seems! Thank goodness I have one easy going baby! She is fine being passed around and doesn’t seem to miss me when I go away. She loves to lay on her tummy and she’s usually the last one to wake up in the morning.

This week we didn’t have much going on at all so I decided I was going to attempt to get them on a good nap schedule, and I was able to accomplish that! They are getting three naps a day in their  cribs. As I said earlier, I followed Elliott’s cues for when he was tired and put the other babies down for a nap at the same time. I think we have it down! It’s not perfect, but I am pretty happy with it! The other update for this month is that we’ve decided to not do any food other than bottles till they are 7 months (6 adjusted.) Our pediatrician said we could start at 5 months and so we did some oatmeal and some carrots for about a week in early July and they just weren’t ready. They aren’t able to sit up enough in their high chairs and they were super fussy so I decided to hold off and I think it was the right choice! I’m excited to try again once they are a little bigger. Elliott seems really interested in food if I am holding while I eat (which let's be honest most meals I am holding someone) he opens his mouth and really tracks the food with his eyes. One more month little man!

SCHEDULE

  • 6/630--Babies are up (Elliott tends to wake up around 5- ugh- but I just go in an give him his pacifier and he lays there till the other two wake up).
  • 6:30/6:45--I get them out of their cribs and start making bottles. This is about the time Tom leaves and most days it’s the only time he sees them all day as he works till usually between 8-10:30 pm. Long days for him lately. (He is such a hard worker and I am beyond thankful for his work that allows me to be home with the triplets!)
  • 7:00 -8:00 --Play time, books, I wash bottles and make my coffee, start a load of laundry. Elliott usually starts losing his cool around 745/8 since he’s been up since 5, but I try my best to hold him off till 815, then all three babies go into cribs for a nap.
  • 9:15--If they haven’t woken up, I wake them up, change diapers and they eat again at 10. Usually we go for a quick walk or go outside between 9:15-10.
  • 10:00-- Feeding time!
  • 11:15-- Nap time again, and they sleep till about 1. If they aren’t up by 1:15 I wake them up.
  • 1:00 -1:15--Feeding, and then we usually will go outside if it’s not too hot or play inside, if we have an errand to run I’ll do that during this time.
  • 3:45--Bottles
  • 4:00 --Naps in cribs
  • 5:00-- I wake everyone up (usually they all have to be woken up from this nap)
  • 6:15--Jammies and medicine for Elliott and Samuel (acid reflux for E and kidney infection prevention for S)
  • 6:30-- Bottles and then bed! They are sleep trained now so will typically go into their cribs awake and fall asleep within minutes. Sometimes Elliott needs some extra “shushing” and tummy pats but for the most part once they are in cribs a little before 7 we don’t see them again till morning! This has been a huge game changer for me and I look forward to bedtime every night ;)

The basement is so close to being done! This month we installed the the cabinets and the granite counter-top was put in for the bar. The last few steps are getting the flooring in and the trim up. We are so excited to have the space and I can’t wait to move all the babies toys down there and have a designated baby hangout!

The older they get the more fun they are becoming so I am excited for the next 6 months!
