RSV times 3//Fall 21
Woof. What a week!!! It has been a really rough week over here at the Glenn household!! Let me start at the beginning.. last Friday 10/22 Toms parents came over to babysit the kids so we could get together with the tribe. We had a great night and got home around 11. They said molly had been coughing a lot, and felt warm. She was up when I went to check on her and so I got her out of bed. She was coughing a ton! She slept ok on Friday night, was up on and off coughing but never really was up crying. Saturday she was definitely much worse. She slept in and didn’t move much at all most of the morning, and had a fever. I took her into our bed to nap and noticed her breathing seemed off. She was retracting and I told Tom I thought she should be seen.
We dropped the boys off at my parents and headed to Children’s. Luckily we got in right away - she had a 102 fever- and they tested for flu, covid and RSV. Those took about 90 minutes to come back so in the meantime they gave her an inhaler to help the breathing. She was sitting around 92 for her oxygen, but it improved with the inhaler. Tests came back and… RSV. Poor Molls. They decided she was ok to go home as the fever was coming down with meds and they told us to do the inhaler every 4 hours.
Again she slept with me and in the morning it was pretty obvious she was worse. She was extremely lethargic and wasn’t eating/drinking, plus breathing heavily. We questioned it but ultimately decided to go back to children’s. By this time it was about 11 am. Again, no one there and we got to triage. They agreed she was working too hard to breathe, and checked her oxygen. 83. My heart dropped, so scary to get that reading! The nurse came out right away and said “you’ll be staying overnight, she’s gonna need oxygen.” I just keep thinking THANK GOD I brought her in!! I was so shaken up! Poor baby girl.
By 12:30 she was on an oxygen mask but quickly realized that wasn’t enough so they switched her over to high flow oxygen and an IV for dehydration. We settled in, knowing we’d be there overnight but not sure how long. She did pretty well with the oxygen and it was a relief. Now to figure out the plan for the boys/ Tom while I was gone. My mom took Monday off to be with the boys so Tom could work. Monday morning the dr came in and since Molly was still really lethargic and was on day 3 of 102/103 fevers, they ordered a chest X-ray…
pneumonia:( so much happening in such a tiny body. Monday evening Tom stayed with her so I could see the boys. Elliott was reallly struggling with all the change, he is a kid that needs a routine and structure and with so many things happening, he needed mom. The boys were getting sick at this point, but they weren’t too bad. The boys got progressively worse over the next few days so once Molly got home Thursday we brought them in and surprise surprise.. RSV for them as well. Yuck. Molly was doing so much better by this point - she was home and seemed almost back to normal. Samuel definitely got the sickest between the two boys but luckily we were able to keep them out of the hospital. A few rough days and nights and we were out of the woods.
Because they were still coughing we decided to skip trick or treating for Halloween, which I was so bummed about! I didn’t want to spread this though or have the kids catch something else. We got the costumes on, and they did go to my parents for a bit to trick or treat. They loved it! It was cold and windy so it was probably for the best we stayed in. We watched the great pumpkin Charlie Brown in our Halloween Jammies.
We are all back to normal life now, and Tom is still working! The weather has been so nice so he hasn’t been laid off yet. His projects for winter are piling up so he is anxious to get started on those. Our Christmas tree is up and the kids are so excited about the lights!! It is so fun to see them so excited. Tom wrapped one of my birthday presents and put it under the tree and Sam already unwrapped it, ha!! I love my new air fryer! :)
Looking forward to thanksgiving and Christmas this year!
