17 months

We are coming in HOT in July! It is warm and humid, we are on track for a record of 90 Plus degree days. And here we are at 17 months! I shared some photos of the kids a year ago, at 5 months and I cannot believe how much they have changed! I don’t even really remember them looking the way they did! The last month was a busy one (when isn’t it though!) and we survived our first plane ride with the kids!

Elliott -
He is doing great with his walking and is running now! He’s fast!! He did so well on our vacation, I was so impressed. When we first got to the rental house in Florida after a day of traveling, he was very clingy and didn’t want me to put him down. After a few minutes he calmed down and started to slowly explore his environment and after that he was totally comfortable. He just needs some time to get warmed up to new things. He LOVED the water though which surprised me. I wasn’t sure how he’d do with the pool but it was a hit with all of them. He listens really well and is starting to be able to understand simple instructions. For example, I can say “Elliott bring me a diaper” and he will find one and bring it over. Pacifiers are still life over here. I will often find him with one in his mouth and one in each hand. He can find them everywhere and anywhere!

Samuel -
Mr Sam, or Sam-a-Lama-ding-dong, as my dad calls him, is our resident trouble maker. He is the button pusher, and the word NO means nothing to him. Actually, most of the time it means keep going, ha! He is so funny, cracks us up all the time. He loves to run away from you and be chased. He is a risk taker and is ALL boy. He’s definitely going to keep us on our toes! He also loved the water and spending time by the pool on vacation. He was the hardest to contain on the flight, though by far. Tom and I were both pretty exhausted on the flight coming home trying to keep him entertained. He still is a big thumb sucker and is our best sleeper. He will sleep the longest for naps and usually goes down the best for bedtime. He’s probably tired after moving non stop all day!  He LOVES balls, trucks and any toy he can carry around. On vacation we couldn’t find the remote for the TV anywhere and it turns out Samuel had put the it in the cabinet with the pots and pans. Ha!

Molly -
Molly is the best at independent play. She easily entertains herself for the most part and is happy to be left alone.. until she wants to snuggle and then she will be super cuddly and want to sit on your lap and snuggle. It’s so sweet! She is easily influenced by Sam and will follow his lead for naughtiness. She LOVES tv!! We watch CocoMelon on YouTube and Netflix and she will just sit and stare at the screen for as long as I’ll allow it. I am going to start working in screen time limits, especially for her as she is just mesmerized by it! She isn’t walking yet, she seems to lack the confidence to just take off and go. She loves to walk with other people holding her hands though, and sill get frustrated if you don’t want to keep going. She throws mini fits by throwing herself to the ground and crying, when it’s not annoying me I have to admit it’s kind of cute ;) her and Samuel don’t mix well together, there’s been lots of fights between those two. They usually want the same toys so it doesn’t always end well. Sigh.

We had an awesome time on vacation in Florida! We flew with the three of them on our laps. Me, Tom and my dad all had a baby assigned to us but we were able to kind of switch them around as needed which was nice. For the most part, Molly stayed with my parents across the aisle from us and Tom and I handled the boys. Elliott did the best, he just snuggled and fell asleep both flights as soon as we landed. Molly did better than we expected, she fell asleep both flights toward the end as well. Samuel, he was a mess! He did ok the first flight, cried a bit as we were coming down because I think his ears hurt, but the flight home he was just all over the place, wallowing, trying to climb.. it couldn’t end fast enough for us. They were free since they are under 2 so they didn’t have seats. Lots of snacks were consumed!

The house we stayed at was so nice! It was in a gated community with a community pool and waterpark area, but our house had its own pool, which was great for us! So much easier to have them use that pool. They loved it. We brought floats for them and spent hours each day swimming. It was super fun, I am so thankful to my parents for having us and all the memories we made. The pool area had a gate all the way around it and an alarm that went off every time the sliding glass door opened unless you pushed a button up high, so we felt super safe about having the pool. So many times we forgot to push the button and the alarm would blare. Worth it though for the extra safety!

Other than our trip, we went to the splash pad this month! That was.. an experience haha! Elliott really struggled, so that’s tough. It’s so hard to go places right now with them. I am feeling a little bit like I’m missing the fun of being out and about, so that’s been a bit hard for me. I am not just talking about Covid because obviously that’s a factor, but it’s just hard to take the three of them places right now. They are all on different pages as far as comfort and what they want to do, so it’s not always easy to just go. I’m sure as they get older it will get better so for now we are spending a lot of time at home. Our deck is super fun and our yard is great for them. We have two swings that they love and a few water tables and a blow up pool, so there’s lots to do!

Tom and I are doing well, he’s busy at work but was glad to have a week off and spend time with the kids. I’d say right now he’s doing 50-60 hour work weeks. I am waiting patiently for the gym to be back open and for the time I’ll feel comfortable bringing the kids, which will probably not be for several months. I am missing exercise and the break a few times a week. Our neighborhood has been doing some food trucks, usually 1-2 a week in the park so the kids and I have ventured out to try some stuff. It’s kind of fun, something different! I think that’s all I’ve got for this month!
