I’ve thought a lot about this post, writing the one year update. I just didn’t think it would come so soon! Elliott, Samuel and Molly are ONE! We survived a whole year of being parents! We survived financially! We survived mentally without going completely crazy (though there were moments!) and we found more love than we dreamed possible in these three.
One year ago at the time I am writing this I was signing paperwork for the C-section, so nervous but to be honest mostly just SO dang uncomfortable that I would have signed anything at that moment just to get them out!! Ha! I remember barely sleeping the night before and listening to Tom snore wondering how the heck he could sleep at a time like this?!?!? Ha! Somethings never change ;) I remember wondering what they would look like or if they’d be healthy and safe.. all of the unknowns of NICU time or not. They told us to prepare for babies to come home with us or to prepare for NICU time so we really had no idea. I remember the smell of the room and ALL the staff. So many drs, nurses, in the room. It seems like yesterday but also seems like such a long time ago... on to the months updates!
ELLIOTT - 19.6 lbs!!
He has been suuuuper clingy towards mama this last month. I’ve said it every month he is the mamas boy but he has taken a turn. He cries and cries if I leave the room, and will follow me everywhere. If I go into a room he will sit outside the door and cry for me. It’s really difficult because all I wanna do is pick him up, but that’s not always possible. He’s also getting teeth, and that’s been tough on him. He has 8 teeth! The top four and the bottom four, so next is the molars. Not looking forward to that for him! He’s been running a low grade fever and even more whiney and clingy so hoping this gets better soon. He does pretty well if we go somewhere and I leave, the issue seems to be when I am around he will want me and crawl to me and want to snuggle rather than play. But if we go to the gym, he does pretty well in the daycare. He cries when I leave but they say he calms down pretty quickly. Other than being clingy ;) he’s been pulling to stand and can even stand on his own for a second or two before falling. He scales the furniture and can walk behind his little walker. It’s so fun to see him explore new things. He is OBSESSED with his paci still. The last few weeks we’ve been taking it away during the day so now he only gets it during naps and bed and it’s hilarious to see how fast he chomps on to it when he gets it back. It’s like he’s missed it so much and he’s never letting go again! He’s sleeping pretty well, he has gotten up a few times in the middle of the night but usually goes back down on his own. He’s eating like a champ, but has decided he no longer likes banana.
SAMUEL - 20.5 lbs!
He has lost some of his chub and it makes me a little sad! He cracks me up, he is a SUPER fast crawler and he will all of a sudden just take off and then laugh. It is hilarious. He loves being chased by dad and will look back and laugh. He is also pulling to stand and looooves the changing table
Drawers. He hasn’t learned his lesson yet that his fingers will get pinched! (We have drawer locks but they kind of suck!) He isn’t very fussy and has found his thumb the last month. He is a thumb sucker!! His big news this month is that he got his first tooth!! At 11 months ;) he has a little
Bottom tooth!! I was kind of hoping he’d wait a bit because that funny little smile just kills me but I am glad he has at least one tooth before he turned one! He is doing better with eating, he is a much slower eater but doesn’t have much he doesn’t like! He hates wearing his winter hats and will take it off a million times, it’s a fun game we play. (Fun for him, not me!) He usually wins because I just give up eventually! He is really into pushing cars or books or anything that slides around the room. He got a tractor with some farm animals for Christmas and it’s his favorite! He drives that thing alll over. So cute! My little Sam man :)
MOLLY - 16.95 lbs!!
Still such a light little lady!! Anytime she gets picked up or held by someone they comment, whoa she doesn’t weigh much! She definitely feels really light, but she is growing!! She has 8 teeth, 4 top and 4 bottom. I just had to switch out her clothes and she is finally wearing 12 month everything! She’s small but mighty! She can hold her own around these boys and is a really independent. If we go somewhere new she will just crawl away and put the nearest object in her mouth. She is obsessed with putting everything into her mouth. Doesn’t matter what it is - how big or how small she will find a way to get it into her mouth! She looooves eating and as soon as something is dropped into her high chair she is grabbing for it. We went to a restaurant and she ate an adult size portion of steamed broccoli! She just kept shoving it in. She is so funny! She loves to dance and baby shark can get her moving, haha! She could listen or watch baby shark 24 hours a day and not get sick of it! She immediately starts shaking her head and arms when the song comes on, it’s so cute!! She wants to walk! She is starting to move between our couch and ottoman a bit but is kind of nervous. I think it’ll happen in the next month or so!!
Their birthday was super fun!! We went to the mall of America (which in hindsight with all the sickness around wasn’t maybe the smartest) and did build a bear and walked around! Their birthday party was fun too, minus the 7” of snow we got the night before! But we made it work and thanks to our families for coming to celebrate the three one year olds!
It’s the season for all the illnesses... Molly currently has influenza B, and we are crossing our fingers the boys stay healthy!! It’s been AWFUL. She just lays in our arms moaning and can’t get comfortable. We are on day 4 of fevers over 102- But she seems have to turned a corner tonight. She still doesn’t seem 100% but is much better. We all five had the stomach flu at the same time and if we can survive that we can survive anything, let me tell you! Tom and I were SO sick and and the poor babies were having awful diarrhea and vomiting. Poor Sams butt was so red :( luckily it didn’t last too long but we all felt pretty wiped out and tired for about a week after. It took a lot out of us all. It’s been a long winter of isolation and illness. Spring can’t come soon enough!
I am ready for warmer weather and being able to get out of the house without the fear of being sick, but I know I’ll look back and miss these lazy slow days. So, as frustrating as it is to have sick kiddos again, I am trying to enjoy the snuggles and be thankful they aren’t dealing with more serious things.
