3 months!!
What a month it has been! The babies have changed so much since last month and are growing so fast!! It’s been busy, fun and overwhelming! We celebrated their first Holiday had lots of
Drs appointments,, saw the Easter bunny and Tom and I had our first night away from them. I’m gonna jump right into the babies updates because a lot has happened this month!
Elliott- oh, Mr. Elliott man. He is still such a mamas boy. He is still having stomach issues, unfortunately. He has been on the special formula for a month so the dr ordered a repeat test of his stool, and it came back positive for microscopic blood. So frustrating!! The last week or so he has been really uncomfortable and acting like he was before he got put on this formula. So, we aren’t really sure what the next steps are at this time. We just switched his reflux medication so I’m hoping that at least gives him some relief! He definitely likes to be held upright, and be held In general. He’s usually fine if someone is holding him all day :-) He is 11.3 lbs and wearing 3 month clothes but is starting to be too long for a lot of the outfits! It’s been so fun to see his little personality shine through even more this month, he is a mini Tom!!!
Samuel- the biggest boy!! He is 11 lbs 13 oz! He is a little chunk and has the cutest arms rolls! He has been a little better with his fussiness, he can sometimes calm himself down which is helpful. He was having some issues with his food so the dr recommended we do a swallow study, where they drink barium under an X-ray so we can see what is happening when he eats. We found out that he is “silently aspirating” which is pretty terrifying!! He did t choke or cough once but the speech pathologist stopped him right away and said he was aspirating. So, the solution is to thicken his formula with infant oatmeal to make it the consistency of honey. Something about that combo makes it easier for him to eat. So far it’s been a week and it seems to be going ok. There’s been. Few times he hasn’t been able to get the liquid out of the bottle because it’s so thick but we are working on the right combo of oatmeal/formula.
Molly- Molly has done really well this month! she’s put on some weight and is filling out in her cheeks. She is 9.2 lbs! She currently has an eye infection, so that’s no fun but she is such a sweet girl. She has started to notice toys and it’s the sweetest thing! She will just look up at them with such wonder. She is so patient and has been smiling a lot this month, it is so cute!! She has the best attitude and is totally content laying on her mat or sleeping in the sun on her stomach. I am thankful for her temperament as the boys are much more high maintenance!! She also had some feeding issues this month so we also did a swallow study for her and it was the same as Samuel, however she was choking and it was obvious. She was definitely letting us know. So she is also on the formula thickened with oatmeal. They both go back in two months for a follow up swallow study.
I am no longer pumping! I made it almost three months and I am super proud of that! None of the three can actually have my breastmilk, so there is no point to continue! With the formula thickened they recommended not using breastmilk as it doesn’t mix well and Elliott can’t handle milk protein. So, they made the decision for me! I was hoping to get to six months but I feel great about stopping now, plus it was taking up SO much of my time and getting really hard to stay on the every 3 hour pumping schedule.
We are working now on changing the babies schedule a bit. They are soooo crabby every night from 6-9 pm, right now our last feeding is at 9, then they go to bed. All three slept through the night one day last week!! It hasn’t happened again but that one night was pretty awesome! I kept waking up thinking they’d be up any minute and nope! By 730 I went and woke them up, I missed them! Haha. Anyways, I think 9 is too late for their last feeding now so we just installed a blackout shade in their room and are going to start moving up their bedtime. We will see how it goes! They are usually up by 7-8, waking up between 2-4 to eat once. Typically they go back down really easily but Elliott has had some rough nights where he isn’t able to go back to sleep. Those nights get long!
Tom and I are adjusting well to life with these three. Life is so different, but we love it! There are definitely moments, like yesterday in Home Depot when all were losing it... but luckily they do pretty well in public and save their meltdowns for the evenings with us, ;) we had two nights out this month, which was super fun. My parents have been super helpful and are just as obsessed with the babies as we are so asking them to watch them is not hard. We also had two visitors from out of town come to see us and that was so fun. We are so blessed with awesome friends and family!
It’s so hard to remember life before them. I am so grateful that for now I am going to be able to continue staying hone with them. We aren’t sure what the future holds and that is not easy for me at times but that’s part of the adjustments you make when you find out you are having three babies. You have to be ok with letting go of any expectations and just seeing what happens. In a weird way I find myself more relaxed living this way, so maybe it’s just an added blessing! <3
