2 months!
The babies are 2 months old! I remember starting this blog in the hospital so scared and praying the babies didn’t come early. And now it’s hard to even imagine life before them, haha. What did I do all the time?! Now time is measured by feedings...we have an hour till the feeding.. one hour free after the feeding to prepare for the next feeding ;) the days are flying by and sometimes at the end of the night I ask myself what I did all day. But I wouldn’t trade these days and time with these guys for the world. We are getting into a good rhythm and things are going overall pretty smoothly. We’ve had some rough nights but the morning comes and it’s a new day.
Elliott-
Elliott weighs 8 lbs 10 oz!! He definitely looks like a Glenn, and he makes the most adorable facial expressions! Poor guy has some tummy issues. About three weeks ago he had a really tough night. We could tell he was very uncomfortable. We took turns rocking and attempting to get him to sleep with no luck. We called the Pediatrician in the morning and they said to bring him in, so we did. They tested his diaper and found there was blood in his stool. This means he has a milk protein allergy, meaning he can’t have my breast milk anymore unless I drastically changed my diet (cut out all dairy, whey protein and casein.) they also switched his formula to one that is amino acid based. We decided that since I was still able to feed the other two breast milk we would give Elliott formula and continue to give Molly and Samuel breast milk. He still doesn’t seem comfortable and cries.. a lot. The last week or so he’s cried anytime we aren’t holding him. That makes for long days when it’s just me at home! I wear him in the carrier as much as possible and have learned how to hold him while feeding another baby. The Dr thinks he may have colic but he sleeps well at night (thank you Jesus!!) and stops crying (for the most part) when we hold him.. so I guess we just have to try to survive this season!
Samuel-
Samuel is 8 lbs 15 oz!!! He’s our big guy!! He’s definitely getting some chunk to him. He loves to be held and snuggled. He still hates diaper changes! We had an appointment last week to check on his kidney reflux and good news... it looks like it’s decreasing! He has another appointment next week but they expect he won’t need to be seen again for 6 months. He will continue his amoxicillin until then. He’s gotten better about being the crier of the group, he passed that torch to Elliott ;) he still seems very concerned a lot but has given a few smiles here and there! He had his first sleepover and night away from his siblings last weekend!! Grandpa and Gigi took him overnight for some extra cuddles and attention. I am not sure who loved it more him or them :) he did really well and I only cried once missing him!
Molly-
Molly is our little angel baby!! She is sooo patient and sweet. She is such an easy going little girl, she rarely cries unless she is hungry. She loves to lay on her back and kick around on her mat and her favorite thing is sleeping on her stomach! We only let her sleep on her stomach during the day for naps while we are watching her. She doesn’t really love snuggling as much as the boys but if she’s sleepy she will lay nicely with us. She isn’t the best eater and is considerably lighter than the other two. She had a bad cold, so much so that we brought her into the clinic (the clinic and our pharmacy know us real well now) and they tested her for RSV she to her breathing patterns but fortunately she was just really congested. At that appointment she was just over 7 lbs. hoping she grows strong like her brothers soon!
People ask “what’s the hardest thing about triplets” and my answer is dividing my time. Especially with Elliott now needing constant holding I feel bad for the other two who I just can’t snuggle as much. I just need to be in three places at once! There’s a lot of pressure that I put on myself to do it all. It’s also hard because even a simple outing like running to Target or even going for a walk takes time and a plan. I have to make sure we have enough time to do the outing in between a feeding. If I am by myself I need to make sure I have all the supplies and enough hands to carry everyone and everything and be prepared for a meltdown. Also, for me learning to “let go” I am absolutely still learning this one but sometimes there just needs to be dishes in the sink or laundry in the washer that has to wait while I hold my babies. That’s a hard one for me. I try to remind myself I won’t get this time back and if the sink has dishes for a few hours in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter. It’s a work in progress :-)
The babies had their first photo shoot with their newborn pictures and we received them back and love them so much!! We had a great experience and can’t wait to get more pictures taken as the babies age. We also have been going out for walks and enjoyed a few nice weather days. Bracing ourselves for the blizzard tomorrow! Ugh. Lots of people have visited and we haven’t been able to introduce everyone yet but we are trying. So, if you haven’t met them yet you will soon.
Tom finished the basement bathroom this week. He’s worked so hard and I am so proud of him and thankful for all this hard work. It looks awesome and it’s so fun to see more progress. All that’s left is the big living room! The tentative goal is to have the basement complete by the end of 2019. We are also working on cleaning out the garage, if you’ve been over recently and seen it you know what a project that is, haha! Slowly but surely :) As for me, I am doing well. Adjusting to mom life better than I expected. I am still pumping every feeding, right now I’m thinking of continuing up to 6 months but am really taking it day by day. My paid portion of maternity leave is coming to an end soon but I am still taking a few more months off to spend time with the babies. I am so thankful we are able to financially make that happen!
We are adjusting to life as a family of five. We have good days and bad days but overall we are so thankful for these three miracles. So thankful for all of the love and support from everyone. It has been an exhausting but amazing two months!
